Leshy Prelude
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
This is a 20-30 minute action-adventure experience with horror elements
The forest is the genesis of many civilizations. With it's bountiful resources of food, fuel, beauty, and peace, it was destined to be a hotbed of growth. There is no question as to why humans would seek refuge and harvest the riches the forest had to offer.
But like most of their endeavors, humans would push the boundaries. Expanding, harvesting, destroying, and taking more than they were due at the expense of their fellow beings while hypocritically considering themselves Vice-Regents of the very lands they were destroying.
But the true vice-regency laid in the hands of Leshy, who spent many millennia curating the forest and keeping the likes of humans in check through ethereal means. But spirituality only went so far, as when humans abandoned their spiritual past in favor of greed, the fate of the forest's ecosystem was as inevitable as a runaway train lacking deadman's controls.
More drastic measures were required
Leshy Prelude is a 20-30 minute action-adventure experience. Leshy possesses graphics inspired by the rendering limitations of PSX along with gun-play mechanics that encourage puzzle-solving/timing with a healthy mix of movement, reaction times, and aiming.

Not Frequently Asked Questions But Expected to be Frequently Asked (NFAQBEFA) serves to answer some questions about the project that I anticipate.
Q: I have a bug to report!
Either comment on this page or reach out to my discord tag "hoodlez". If possible, provide your "player.log" and "thing.dat" situated in C:\Users\(username)\AppData\LocalLow\Goodest Bois LLC_\Leshy Prelude
Q: Loading the first level is taking so long!? What gives!
Depending on your hardware, it will likely take around 20 seconds to a minute to load the first level the first time you launch the game. This is only required once per patch/install. What's taking so long is that it's loading the global illumination maps for the terrain.
Q: Is there/will there be Mac support?
I wasn't able to get it properly signed/notarized, but I do have experimental builds for intel and ARM macs. If you're willing to test out the experimental build, it will be provided upon request.
Q: I see Steam:tm: mentioned in the trailer but no links, is there a steam release or not?
Steam release is planned, I've paid the direct fee, there are some minor paperwork issues I need to sort out before I can get the page up. It will release alongside achievement support and some additional features.
Q: Was AI used at all for this project?
No. We deliberately strayed away from anything AI whether it be art, programming, or sound.
Q: Are there lots of jump scares?
Personally, I think jump scares are cheap and don't contribute anything meaningful to the genre. I don't expect the average person to be "scared" while playing this game, but there is a sense of uneasiness throughout. It's more surrealistic mystery rather than in your face BOO!
Q: Are you going to add localization in X language?
I originally wanted to have Russian/Belarusian/Swedish localization, it's still in the cards if there's any interest.
Q: What's the deal with this game?
I'm going to lay out all my cards on the table and be totally honest. This is not my dream game, but it is something I poured a lot of love and passion into. It's a bite-sized experience that has some pretty fun gameplay/mechanics with an intriguing story. I am releasing it in a *completed* state (This is not considered Early Access). This project had some troubled development early on due to the team involved, so it has a lot of content that had to be ultimately cut. (2 levels, an extra mechanic, some story beats, and an extra boss fight)
That being said, just because I am releasing it does not mean I will cease development. Depending on how much interest there is surrounding the lore, gameplay, and atmosphere I will most likely add more content and continue to patch/update the game.
With that being said, I want to thank you for supporting me and trying the game out! Feedback would be most appreciated!

Thanks for game :)
That was awesome! Thank you for the comments and documenting your experiences :D If it's okay with you, I'll probably be sharing this with the next devlog!
This is fun. Master Normal Mode. It's worth it.
I'm not a fan of games with horror elements, but I absolutely loved this game. It leaves you annoyed (in a good way) and wanting to try more lol. I highly recommend sparing 30 minutes of your day to try it out. I hope the story develops and I'm very curious as to where its going to lead!
Thank you so much for playing! I really appreciate it, it means so much! I have an interesting few patches in mind for the near future!
I absolutely adore the psx and retro style vibes, the music fits it all so well too. Loving the environment design. Gameplay wise, while it is very simple, the gameplay mechanics keep it challenging and interesting enough. You are forced to hone your own skills by learning how to use the given mechanics to deal with enemies. While the reload mechanic can make you panic, it is satisfying to hit it at the right time for a faster reload.
The story is simple enough with dialogue that isn't too overwhelming to read. Leshy is quite "charismatic".
Some feedback as a casual player:
-health/hp system, as it is very easy to get one shot while dealing with multiple enemies
-maybe an indicator on where to go next cause sometimes it is unclear where the "opened path" is
-projectiles effects could be more brighter so its more easy to notice
-reload mechanic could potentially be made rng based for a hardcore mode(eg: the green bar is more random now, going from anywhere to 5 percent to around 45 percent?)
Thank you again for such a game, can't wait to see what updates will come to it. :D
I've implemented a compass and made projectile visibility more prominent! You can read more about it here: https://funkyducke.itch.io/leshy-prelude/devlog/779727/finding-our-way
I'm going to be working next on creating an easier mode and retain the current mode as "hardcore". The RNG on reload is an interesting idea too. Thank you so much!
